Teton Lakota Tribe
About

The Teton Lakota have been referred to as many things, a powerful horse tribe, a fierce warrior society, a Thunder-Being Nation. Both feared and revered by their enemies, reknowned Indian fighter General George Crook said after the Battle of the Rosebud in June of 1876, "the Lakota were the finest light cavalry in the world". A spiritual people with a well established relationship with Wakan Tanka (the Creator) and Mother Earth was evident in their customs, traditions, and religious ceremonies. The Lakota knew exactly who they were. Their identity, sovereignty, and place in the world was never in doubt. More than any other element, the sacred relationship with the buffalo sustained and helped define the culture of the Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires) and allowed them to flourish into the Great Lakota Nation.
